Best time to visit Meghalaya

When to visit Meghalaya for waterfalls, root bridges, and Dawki. A Guwahati desk view — not a copied month grid.

The best time to visit Meghalaya depends on whether you want thunder in the waterfalls or a walkable root-bridge trail. From Guwahati, Leafyinn plans both — we do not sell one “perfect month” to every inquiry.

October to May is the window most first-timers should book. Skies open, the Shillong road is saner, and Sohra viewpoints are not a white wall. December and January are cold at night; pack a jacket even if the plains feel mild.

June to September is the monsoon the state is famous for. Waterfalls are at full voice. Trails are slick, Dawki turns muddy, and some homestays prefer guests who accept rain as the point. We still run trips then — with honest cab buffers and fewer tight connections.

If you have only five days from Guwahati, we prefer the dry-shoulder months so you actually see Nohkalikai. If you have a week and you like weather, monsoon Sohra is a different trip, not a ruined one.

Common questions

Is October the best month for Meghalaya?

It is one of the safest all-round months: post-monsoon green, fewer closed trails. November to February is also strong if you accept cold nights.

Should I avoid Meghalaya in July?

Only if you need guaranteed viewpoints and a clear Dawki boat. If rain is why you came, July is honest weather — plan extra drive time.

Can Leafyinn build a trip around my dates?

Yes. Send month and party size. We match stay belt (Shillong vs Sohra) and cab days to the season, not to a fixed brochure.
